In the beginning, there was nothing but chaos.
Pangu (盘古), the primordial giant of Chinese mythology, woke and emerged from a cosmic egg. With a mighty stroke, he split the egg into two: the purer half rose to become Heaven, and the heaier half sank to become Earth.
Pangu stood between them, keeping Heaven and Earth separated for 18,000 years, until the world took shape.
At the centre of this piece, the pearl represents Pangu’s cosmic egg, while the citrine and peridot represent Heaven and Earth respectively; two halves of the world held in balance by Pangu.
