METAL CARE

Sterling silver naturally develops a patina over time and is more prone to tarnishing than gold. Natural exposure to oxygen, humidity, and sweat can speed this up.

Gold is more resistant to tarnishing, but can still scratch, dull or react to chemicals with regular wear.

A few simple things will help:

• Keep your jewellery away from perfume, body oils, moisturisers, dishwashing liquid, and other chemicals where possible.
• Remove your jewellery before showering or swimming, as water and soap can speed up tarnishing. Remove it when exercising to avoid knocks and scratches.
• Give your pieces an occasional clean. If worn daily, once a month is sufficient. Gently wash your piece with mild hand soap and water, lightly brushing with an old, soft toothbrush.
• Use the jewellery polishing cloth included with your piece to gently polish away tarnish.
• Dry thoroughly before storing.

A little tarnish is completely normal and can usually be polished away. It is part of the nature of the metal!

PEARL CARE

Pearls are more delicate than metal and prefer a gentle life.

• Keep pearls away from perfume, skincare, soap and other chemicals where possible. Put them on only after applying perfume and skincare. 
• Avoid wearing them in the shower, pool or sea.
• Gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wearing to remove any body oils, sweat or residue.
• Never scrub pearls or clean them with jewellery cleaners or polishing cloths.
• Store them separately from harder gemstones and metal pieces to avoid scratches.

STORAGE

Keep your jewellery somewhere cool, dry, and away from direct sunlight. Your Folk Affinity pouch or box, or a jewellery box with separate compartments, will help prevent different pieces from rubbing and scratching.

If you live somewhere humid, such as Singapore, I'd recommend keeping your jewellery with a moisture absorber, such as silica gel, to slow tarnishing. I've included a small moisture-absorbing paper in your box to keep with your jewellery when storing.
